The Month of May is upon the RT Galaxy, which means that 2 Indy 500s await: one run by SCART, the other by Turbo Indy. The Indianapolis 500 is one of the few major racing events that has survived the decades. By now it is older than a century, meaning it is one of the very few races that spans over a period of over 100 years. Considering the establishment of the automobile that makes it a phenomenon. The only prominent race to be older and survive is the classic at the Milwaukee Mile. Legends like Targa Florio, once the most popular race by far, have become history and are no more.
Indy is so unique because it offers a spectrum of variety despite its shape. As it has been stated many times by drivers, all 4 corners have their own character. Each turn is unique and must be driven in a distinct way. The room for mistakes is smaller than on most other speedways. The numberless "wall kisses" prove this. Simply speaking, Indy is not very wide and has long turns with 9 degrees of banking. That means a driver must know exactly what he is doing when driving through those turns or he will, if nothing else, suffer the biggest frustration a racer can experience.
Maybe the key to understanding the meaning of Indy is the fact that qualifying for the race is already a fierce challenge. The fight for a spot on the grid happens in the split-seconds, so the demands for an aspirant are as high as it gets. On top of that, there are many eyes on whoever is on track. While some do not mind the attention, others crack under the added tension.
The race itself does not need much description. During the Month of May all eyes are on Indy. When "Gentlemen, start your engines!" summons 33 mighty powerplants to life, goosebumps are guaranteed. When the cars powered by those engines roll to the green, heartbeats are at the maximum. The most excited being the drivers themselves.
"The Greatest Spectacle In Racing" awaits. Both series are ready and the practicing has already begun. At the very least, 200 laps of blast await. The winner will enter the history books, the rest have been part of history in the making.
So here they are, the gates to glory:
